Slovak team to compete at robotics competition in China

Pupils from a primary school in Zvolen (Banská Bystrica region) who have won a Slovakia-wide robotics competition are set to take part in the international RoboCup Junior 2015 competition in China, TASR learnt on Tuesday. The Slovak team, which is called RoboGen, will be pitted against other talented pupils from over 45 countries at the event in Hefei, China between July 19-22 thanks to an exclusive partnership with IT company PosAm. The Slovak pupils will vie for success in the 'rescuers' category, in which they will be tasked with constructing a fully autonomous robot capable of finding its way in a labyrinth, overcoming a range of obstacles and taking the victim of a disaster to an evacuation zone. The school's headmistress Ľuboslava Bieliková recognised the support of the aforementioned company, stating that it specialises in useful technologies. "We, too, seek to make sure that the education that pupils receive is useful for their own development, career as well as those around them", she said. The team of five pupils, who are all members of the APROGEN programme for gifted children, is led by IT teacher Maroš Hudík.
