The police have confiscated a total of 1,500 contraband cartons of cigarettes at the Slovak-Ukrainian border, according to Border and Foreign Police HQ in Sobrance spokesperson Agnesa Kopernická. The police seized the cigarettes on Sunday (June 14) at two locations. At around 2 a.m. the police inspected a freight train that was entering Slovakia from Ukraine. In one of its wagons they found 600 cartons concealed under iron ore and marked with Ukrainian stamps. The customs tax due was estimated in this case at just over €16,310. Other tobacco products were seized in a forest on the territory of the village of Ruský Hrabovec. Six packages containing 900 cartons of cigarettes were found. The customs tax dodge in this case has been estimated at just over €17,000.
