Almost 350 people have fainted from heat in recent days

The heatwave that has embraced Slovakia in recent days has kept emergency services busy, as over the past four days they've been called to assist almost 350 people who'd fainted from the heat, while around 200 people have had to be taken to hospital since Friday (June 5), Boris Chmel, spokesman of the Slovak Operational Emergency Centre (OSZZS), informed TASR on Tuesday. According to Chmel, two thirds of the cases were women. The situation was expected to improve as of yesterday (Tuesday) as temperatures across the country have stabilised. Chmel warned that heat is a problem for the body, and women are more prone to fainting than men. He added that it's important to pay attention to children and the elderly and to drink plenty of water on hot days.
