The highway tunnel Višňové near Žilina began to be drilled on Tuesday. The entire 13.5-kilometer section of the D1 highway from Lietavská Lúčka to Dubná Skala, which also includes the 7.5-kilometer Višňové Tunnel and 7 bridges, should cost nearly €410 million and should be completed by the end of 2019. "This day is crucial for the entire D1 highway as this stretch with Višňové tunnel was kind of a Gordian knot, and it is one of the most important constructions on the entire route of D1 highway. In 2019, this section will be put to operation and at that moment all other sections from Hričovské Podhradie to Dubná Skala should also be put to operation", said Transport Minister Jan Počiatek.
