A declaration criticising Premier Robert Fico's foreign policy measures entitled 'We don't want to exchange the European Union for Russia' has been signed by 70 personalities from social and cultural life in Slovakia. The personalities, e.g. writer Daniel Hevier, actor Robert Roth, historian Katarina Zavacka and psychiatrist Jozef Hasto, note the premier's actions vis-a-vis the Russian Federation. The signatories are convinced that the premier is abusing his position and is endorsing values that come into conflict with the needs of the citizens of Slovakia and the interests of the country. They remind Fico that he isn't a private individual but a prime minister of an EU- and NATO-member state. Fico returned on Tuesday (June 2) from a two-day working visit to Moscow, where, among others, he met President Vladimir Putin.
