Slovak children consume too much salt in their meals, the Health Ministry warned in a report that was approved by the Government. The ministry based its conclusion on a yearlong probe into the dietary habits of children attending pre-school and school facilities. As their findings indicate salt in food consumed by children aged between four-six exceeded the recommended nutrient intake for adults by over 50 percent. "Considering the given age group, this would exceed the limit by as much as 200 percent," reads the report. The ministry also pointed to a number of positive findings. One favourable trend can be seen in the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as wholegrain products, breakfast cereals and poultry.
