Air pollution in Slovakia is still very high and exceeds acceptable limits, which causes serious health problems and contributes to damage worth billions of euros to health, property, forests and harvests, representatives of the Centre for Sustainable Alternatives (CEPTA) stated on Wednesday when presenting the results of their air pollution measurements. The measurements were carried out within a Europe-wide project called Clean Air. "We've found both hell and heaven in Slovakia as concerns air quality," said CEPTA head Daniel Lesinsky, adding that the cleanest air is in the Tatra Mountains, while the worst quality air can be found in the underground garages of shopping centres. Air pollution causes health complications and contributes to early deaths. As explained by Miroslav Suta, an expert on ecological and health risks, dust particles in the air reduce life spans by an average of 8.6 months in the whole of European Union, and by as many as over ten months in Slovakia.
