Foreign Ministry: Russia 1 documentary on 1968 invasion is misleading

The Slovak Foreign Ministry was unpleasantly surprised by the showcasing the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in such a misleading way, as did the Russian state television Russia 1 in its documentary "Warsaw Pact-Declassified Pages" aired on May 23. "The documentary, in the passage on the military invasion and subsequent 20 years of occupation of Czechoslovakia by Soviet troops, used falsehoods and ideological cliché, from which Soviet and Russian officials have gradually distanced and officially apologized for the invasion and occupation," said Foreign Ministry's spokesman Peter Stano. Stano pointed out that the broadcasting of this documentary harms the traditionally declared good Slovak-Russian relations. "Since the television Russia 1 is a state television broadcaster, we are convinced that the Russian Federation government shall take adequate steps to prevent from misrepresenting the tragic history of Slovakia-Russian bilateral relations," added Stano.
