Slovakia and Hungary might exchange small pieces of its territories and alter the state border between these two neighbouring countries, according to a document proposed by the Slovak Interior Ministry. The size of the territory in question is altogether 17 hectares on both sides. The reason for this territorial exchange is according to the Interior Ministry the change of Ipeľ river bed caused by different water management arrangements. Some of these changes have not yet been incorporated into the Slovakia-Hungarian treaty on borders. If this proposal gets through Slovak government, it also needs to be approved by constitutional majority in the parliament, and later by the Hungarian side.
