Slovakia Warned Over 4G Network Auction

The European Commission has warned Slovakia over the delay in organizing its 4G network auction. “We asked for a postponement of the frequency allocation in the 800 MHz band until the end of this year,” spokesman for the Transport Ministry Martin Kona noted. However, the EC dismissed the request. It also rejected Slovenia’s request.

Member states were obliged to make this band available for high speed Internet as of January 1, 2013. “In the case of defaulted duty there is the threat of trials, which may lead, for instance, to a fine,” said Ingrid Ludvikova from the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia asquoted by the Hospodárske noviny daily. She added that it is too premature to deal with the amount of the fine or even its imposition.
