Slovak National Party speaks out against EU migrant quotas

Despite resistance from several EU-member states, the European Commission is going ahead with its plans to impose quotas for accepting immigrants, Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Andrej Danko told TASR on Tuesday. According to Danko, the Commission will soon propose how to distribute 40,000 immigrants from the Mediterranean among individual EU members. "The problem is being resolved silently despite the resistance of many countries", said Danko, adding that, "The distribution of immigrants and their forced placement in countries that they didn't want to get to isn't a solution. Human smuggling is first and foremost very good business for organised criminal groups, and that's where there's a need to begin". European Commission statistics reveal that the EU received approximately 626,000 applications for asylum in 2014, the highest number of asylum applicants within the bloc since 1992. The UN refugee Agency expects the number of asylum seekers heading to Europe to not reduce this year, but rather continue to increase.
