Former long-time member of the Slovak ice-hockey national team Richard Lintner is to run for the Slovak Ice hockey Association (SZLH) presidency at the time of the association's congress next month and thus challenge the incumbent president Igor Nemeček. Lintner, a member of Slovakia's squad that won gold at the IIHF World Ice-hockey Championship in 2002, also unveiled a programme containing 24 items designed to boost the development of Slovak hockey. The programme is focused on four areas - youth, Slovakia's hockey leagues, national team and the association as such. Among other things, the programme talks of making use of what they call "strong international contacts and experience from the top international level of hockey" to the benefit of Slovak hockey. Lintner has for some time been at the helm of an initiative - joined also by fellow former top names of Slovak hockey - Peter Bondra, Miroslav Šatan, Rastislav Pavlikovský, Ján Filc and Otto Haščák - that, as he says, seeks to give new impetus to the sport.
