The number of Alpine marmots living in the Belianske Tatry mountain range has increased after a number of years without positive developments. "This is a historic occurrence, and we've been waiting for it for six years," said director of the Tatra National Park (TANAP) administration Pavol Majko. The project was launched in 2008 and lasted for three years. It involved the catching Alpine marmots in the High Tatras before releasing them in the Belianske Tatry. Thirty-eight baby marmots have been born since the marmots were introduced.
