Better conditions ahead for asylum seekers in Slovakia

Better conditions ahead for asylum seekers in Slovakia

Approving changes in asylum policy, legislators with 80 votes in Parliament on Thursday passed better conditions for dealing with young refugees that end up unaccompanied in Slovakia. According to the legislation, underage refugees won't be placed in special facilities for immigrants but will be able to remain in facilities administered by bodies pertaining to children's social and legal protection and social care while their asylum application is being processed. Young unaccompanied asylum seekers will be able to stay in children's homes after becoming adults if they apply for this and are granted consent by the given facility. Children's homes should also be obliged to create favourable conditions for young asylum seekers to meet representatives of international organisations.
