Some roads warrant raising speed limit to 150 Kmh

Police Corps Vice-president L'ubomir Abel believes that some sections of Slovak roads comply with requirements for the maximum speed limit to be increased to 150 kilometres per hour from the current 130km/h. He added that the proposal first needs to be debated by experts, however. "The technical condition of vehicles is currently better than before. Cars are more modern and safer," said Abel, adding that the use of modern cars validates a debate on boosting the speed limit on some stretches to 150 kilometres per hour but without compromising safety. "We aren't speaking about entire roads, as some sections are totally out of the question. The Czech Republic is also discussing a plan to raise the limit on certain stretches to 150 kilometres per hour. While a bill to this effect was backed by the lower chamber of the Czech Parliament, the higher speed limit is being opposed by the Transport Ministry and Czech President Miloš Zeman.
