Robert Fico at the celebrations in Moscow

The event held in Moscow on Saturday to commemorate the end of Second World War and the fall of fascism was extraordinarily dignified, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said after the festivities. Fico participated in the laying of wreathes to the grave of Unknown Soldier at Alexander Garden in Moscow and attended the ceremonial reception in Kremlin. "I consider it right that I've adopted such a well-balanced approach to the festivities but mostly that I showed respect in Moscow to the country and people who undoubtedly bore the brunt of WWII," said Fico. According to him, it is undignified that the theme of the commemoration of the end of WWII is being turned into a contemporary political issue. Also the Slovak Foreign minister Miroslav Lajčák confirmed for RTVS that the Slovak Republic did not give any blessing to the annexation of the Crimea by the Prime Minister Robert Fico attending the celebrations in Moscow.

While in Moscow, Fico also held bilateral talks with Czech President Miloš Zeman during the military parade on Red Square, in which neither politician took part. Fico and Zeman discussed the future joint session of Czech and Slovak Governments, slated for next week.
