Tight, but successful start for Slovakia at the IIHF Word Champs

Both of the opening games for Slovakia at the IIHF World Championships in the Czech Republic ended with a victory; however both had to be achieved in overtime. On Saturday, Slovakia prevailed over Denmark 4-3 after an overtime shootout, when the goals by Marek Viedenský and Marko Daňo proved the difference. On Sunday, again the team needed overtime to earn its second win, when the defender Andrej Meszároš scored his first two goals for the national team, changing the score against Belarus to 2-1. Slovakia plays its preliminary round games in Ostrava, which is full of cheering Slovak supporters, as it is only 50km from the Slovak border.
