Slovakia is reacting to current developments in the global security situation with a new National Action Plan for combating terrorism (NAP) for the period 2015-18. The Government approved it on Wednesday. The Interior Ministry prepared the proposal, the aim of which is to respond to the practice of European citizens travelling to areas of conflict, becoming radicalised and returning to their homeland. The plan also tackles the threat posed by 'lone wolves'; radicalisation and self-radicalisation on the internet, in educational institutions and in religious communities; and the financing of terrorism. The report states that the security situation in Slovakia is currently relatively peaceful. Slovakia is perceived by international terrorists as a transit country. Unlike in western European countries, there's a low risk of radicalised fighters returning from Syria or other conflict areas. The Muslim community in Slovakia appears to be moderate.
