Foreign minister Miroslav Lajčák addressed the UN Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons on Monday. As he stated proliferation of weapons of mass destruction continues to be a major threat. According to Miroslav Lajčák non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament should be pursued through a set of mutually reinforcing legal instruments. Slovakia has assumed the role of the deputy-presiding country at the current 9th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Minister Lajčák's address attests to the active engagement of Slovakia in all three aspects of the Treaty: disarmament, non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
