Bratislava's Gallery Cvernovka is opening its art workshops once again on Labour Day.
The former thread manufacturer now houses workshops of designers, architects and artists. It will be open for visitors between 10am-8pm on Friday. The organisers have said that local artists and residents of Cvernovka will show where they work and where they live, and will be providing refreshments. Visitors can look forward to concerts, an art gallery, a kids' corner and a terrace with a garden. Cvernovka, known by its common name meaning 'thread factory', used to be one of the largest manufacturers of its kind in Europe. Between 1903-2003 cotton was processed there and exported all over the world. Currently it's one of the few remnants of Bratislava's industrial past, and is a favourite location for painters, architects, photographers and other artists and companies who have found their residence inside.
