50 victims of human trafficking in Britain saved

Together with their British colleagues and Europol, Slovak police managed to save 50 potential victims of human trafficking and arrest 24 suspects. "The suspects hail mainly from western Slovakia. The victims come from a financially poor background, and were lured by prospects of a better income from work in Great Britain," said Police Corps Presidium spokesman Michal Slivka. Instead of promised jobs, however, victims had their travel documents confiscated and were exploited to work in bad conditions without pay, while exposed to physical abuse. "We warn applicants for work abroad to be cautious when considering similar job offers, so as not to become victims of labour exploitation," added Slivka.
