On Saturday, 11 April, players of HC Košice won the sixth match in the final of the major Slovakia Tipsport league against HC'05 Banská Bystrica 2:1 and successfully defended the title as Slovak champions. It is their eighth title, which brings them equal to Slovan Bratislava, however since Slovan doesn't play in the Slovak league anymore, this title also confirmed the reputation of Košice, as currently the best Slovak extra-league team. The exuberant celebrations of the Košice players harmed the celebrated trophy cup. One of the players unluckily hit the trophy placed on ice with his skates, which resulted in a figure of a hockey player falling off the trophy.
