Slovak milk producers start SOS campaign

The Slovak Association of Dairy Farmers together with the Union of Slovak Milk Producers have started a campaign for rescuing local milk processing and production. Since 2009, more than 200 producers have ceased operation. There are no more than 600 farmers dealing with milk production in Slovakia today. "These farmers have made more than €300 million in losses since 2009", said Alexander Pastorek, the president of the Slovak Association of Dairy Farmers. The situation has led to the SOS help us! campaign which started Thursday. According to Stanislav Voskár, the president of the Union of Slovak Milk Producers, their ambition is to address consumers as well as chains. Consumers decide what they buy whereas chains decide on the size of selling space for individual producers. Slovak dairies produce goods worth approximately €580 annually in distribution costs.
