Roma minority against police action

An Interior Ministry investigation has instituted a prosecution in the case of a police operation which took place in Vrbnica, in eastern Slovakia. According to its mayor Jaroslav Tokár, several Roma inhabitants of the village were injured during the county's search operation. The citizens claim that coercive measures were inappropriate and were taken on people who had never clashed with law. The chief Košice county police officer Juraj Leško disagrees with these statements. According to him, no coercive measures were taken in Vrbnica. "I highly disagree with naming this police action brutal... I am against being it misused for political reasons", said Juraj Leško. The action will be investigated by Roma community plenipotentiary Peter Pollák as well as by the public defender of rights Jana Dubovcová.
