Slovakia's exceeded its Kyoto Protocol commitment by 33%

Slovakia has exceeded its commitment to curb greenhouse gas emissions emerging from the Kyoto Protocol, the Environment Ministry stated in a report that was discussed by the Government on Wednesday. According to the report, Slovakia has surpassed its commitment by more than 33 percent within the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol 2008-12. According to the released data, greenhouse gas emissions reached over 43 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents in 2012, which was a drop of 41.4 percent when compared to the level recorded in 1990. The report also states that while the volume of gas emissions from stationary sources has been on the decline, the volume of emissions from transport has been rising constantly. The Environment Ministry stated that there's a need to intensify the implementation of regulatory and monetary measures towards halting the negative developments related to transport.
