A brazen scammer successfully conned €4000 from pensioners in the town of Nové Zámky in southwest Slovakia. An unknown man called an 82-year-old woman and presented himself as her son asking for money. He told the elderly woman to give the money to one of his friends who would be arriving soon. "An unidentified woman arrived to the victim's address, and she was given €4000. Only after her departure did the pensioner call her son to investigate the matter. Her son told her that he had not requested money from her and that he didn't ask anyone to collect it", said the spokeswoman for Nitra Regional Police Headquarters Božena Bruchterová. Nové Zámky residents aren't the only ones set in the scammers' sights however, with police investigating two similar situations occurring in the nearby town of Komárno. Four separate women explained how an unknown person had called them, posing as a relative, before asking for money. "In instances where citizens are contacted in such a fashion, and if they suspect foul play, they should call [the police number] 158 before handing over money to an unknown person", warned Bruchterová.
