Violation of International Law by Russia unacceptable for Slovakia

The crisis in the immediate vicinity of Slovakia has become a major threat to European security, has quickly brought economic consequences and undermined the energy security of Ukraine and a number of other European countries, reads a Report on Meeting Foreign and European Affairs Policy Tasks in 2014. The Government approved the report on Wednesday. It furthermore calls for more intense involvement of Slovakia in the Ukraine crisis. "In the dispute between Ukraine and Russia international law has been violated by the Russian Federation, which is unacceptable to Slovakia," stressed the report. The priority of Slovak policies has been to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the crisis via diplomacy and to reduce the impacts that the conflict has had in the sphere of energy. Slovakia has also significantly bolstered the amount of humanitarian aid that it provides to Ukraine. As for Moscow, Slovak diplomacy claims isolating Russia was not in its interest and that only when all diplomatic tools failed did Slovakia support restrictive EU measures towards Russia.
