More than 50,000 Slovaks working in the UK could be affected by possible complications after the upcoming general election in Great Britain which are to be held on 7 May, writes the Pravda daily. The rights of people from other EU-member states have become a hot topic of discussion in the run up to the elections. Some Brits are objecting to the high number of foreign workers, and Prime Minister David Cameron has indicated that he would like to see a reduction in the number of arrivals. He certainly wants it to become more difficult for foreigners to claim benefits. Meanwhile, it has been proposed that people who come to the UK and don't find work within six months should be obliged to leave the country. Other suggestions are that no benefits should be paid for children living outside the UK and that the attitude towards foreign beggars should be toughened up. Slovaks living in Britain think that their contribution to the British economy is often overlooked. "The British should be glad that they've got us because there would be no hotel industry in Britain otherwise. They wouldn't have anyone to work in warehouses or carry out other similar demanding work that English people would never do," said hotel worker in London Katarina Vujčíková.
