President's Office pays compensation to Jozef Čentéš

The President's Office on Thursday paid financial compensation plus court fees to prosecutor Jozef Čentéšin line with the verdict of the Constitutional Court. In December 2014, the senate of the Constitutional Court invalidated the decision of former president Ivan Gašparovič from December 2012, not to appoint Čentéš - as voted by Parliament in June 2011 - to the post of prosecutor-general. Furthermore, the court ordered that Čentéš should receive €60,000 in compensation. Gašparovič called upon Kiska this week to protect the budget of the President's Office by turning to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to evaluate whether or not the Slovak Constitutional Court arrived at an appropriate verdict. "If he (Kiska) won't do this, I will, as a participant in the procedure", said Ivan Gašparovič. The former president recommended Andrej Kiska then to deposit the money and pay out only if an adverse decision is reached by the European Court.
