The EU should take more time to decide on the prolonging of sanctions against Russia and wait until the summer, stated Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák. He made this statement ahead of the upcoming EU summit at which numerous EU member states want to vote on sanctions against Russia. Lajčák confirmed that within the EU there is now a heated debate about the fate of sanctions against Russia that are to end in July. "EU Member states are divided into two groups. One would like to approve the agreement of prolonging the current sanctions in March. The other group is formed by countries who would like to wait until the June Council and have more time to assess the implementation of agreements from Minsk" stated the Slovak head of diplomacy Lajčák.
