The Cabinet approved the National Plan to ensure security of the borders for the years 2015 - 2018. One of the biggest challenges of the state is to finish building two static monitoring systems at the Northern part of the border with Ukraine. The state plans to do this in the next 2 years. As the document of the Interior Ministry states in a short time Slovakia has managed to build mainly in the southern part of the border a rather large monitoring system of the external terrestrial borders with Ukraine. This was also called a case of good practice by the Schengen evaluation. "However we shouldn't relent in this but need to continue in the process" reads the ministerial document that the Government approved at its meeting on Wednesday. Another challenge for Slovakia in this area are the developments in Ukraine and the implications they will have on migration through the Slovak - Ukrainian border. Slovakia needs to be ready for negative changes in this area and for a higher number of refugees from Ukraine, it needs to strengthen the monitoring of foreigners and their stay mainly in Eastern Slovakia as well as to introduce new technologies that will be implemented throughout the EU, reads the National border security plan for 2015 - 2018.
