Renowned sculptor Jan Kulich dies at 84

On Sunday, 15 March, at the age of 84 died Ján Kulich a renowned Slovak sculptor, portraitist and author of several chamber and monumental works. Traditional folk culture as well as history with its important figures belonged among his lifelong artistic topics. His career experienced many ups and downs, when first as a long-time member of the Communist Party he was favored by the regime, after 1989 he fell into oblivion and disgrace. The latest controversy about his work concerned the statue of Slavic king Svätopluk, which was installed at the Bratislava castle in 2010.
