Slovak economy on the rise

The Slovak economy grew in the past year at the quickest pace since 2011, with GDP increasing by 2.4 percent. These figures result from the revised data published by the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, which confirmed on Friday the figures from its flash estimate a month ago. Were it not for an increase in investments, growth would be only half; moreover the Slovak economy is not solely dependent on the exports of the car industry and domestic consumption, as in recent years. "Statistics are one thing; however, the reality of Slovak households is often different. Nevertheless, it must be said that the prospects for the economy are better and that people should no longer feel the belt-tightening, but rather the improvement of their living condition," says Igor Kiss, economist from the Masaryk University in Brno.
