Work at Mochovce NPP Gets Go Ahead for Now

Slovenske Elektrarne can continue for now with the completion of the third and fourth units of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant. Shareholders of the dominant electricity producer, which are the state and the Italian group Enel, have approved at the Extraordinary General Meeting annexes to contracts with key suppliers of the construction totalling 260 million euro.

“This decision was taken in order to ensure the continuation of urgent finishing works on the project, so as to prevent serious damages to the company,” spokeswoman for Slovenske Elektrarne Janka Burdova informed. It will still be necessary to green-light an additional 500 million euro for the completion of the Mochovce units. The project should ultimately needs 3.8 billion euro, while originally it was spoken about 2.8 billion. The state as a 34-percent stakeholder has been blocking the approval of the total sum of the required additional funds for the completion of two nuclear units in Mochovce. State representatives however have not yet specified why.
