In January the Slovak banking sector witnessed an increase in profits by 6.4 percent year-on-year to €58.4 million, according to the latest data released by the Slovak central bank (NBS). This is due to a 16% rise in net profits from fees and commissions. Conversely, the 12-percent hike in loans provided to individuals seen last year didn't have a significant influence on the yields of financial institutions. Deposits had remained flat in December 2014. "Following a significant rise in consumption the previous year, households probably put a lid on their consumption expenditures to a certain degree and saved money", read the analysis.
