Annualized drop in consumer prices in Slovakia deepened to 0.5 percent in January. Compared to December it meant deflation deepening by 0.4 percentage points. The average annual inflation rate measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) of the European Union reached negative 0.1 percent over January. In December, prices in the EU weakened in annual terms by 0.1 percent, the Statistics Office of the European Union Eurostat reported on Tuesday. In Slovakia, the development was the same as across the EU. The year-on-year decline deepened, since in December prices in Slovakia decreased by 0.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
