Foreign Minister receiving hate mail regarding human rights

I'm receiving hundreds of hateful e-mails over the Statewide Strategy for the Protection and Support of Human Rights in Slovakia, approved by the Government this week, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said on the RTVS talk show 'Sobotne dialogy' (Saturday Dialogues). Lajčák served as the main coordinator in the process of the strategy's drafting. "It's as if the public debate was limited only to one single, explicitly marginal and partial issue: namely, the standing of individuals with non-heterosexual orientation. However, the strategy is much more comprehensive than that", stressed Lajčák, urging all who'd like to voice their opinion on the issue to read the document first. "From the hateful e-mails, I can see that they haven't made the effort. It's 28 pages long; that I think is manageable", he said. Lajčák reiterated that the strategy is dedicated to the analysis of human rights in Slovakia, the need to bolster the institutional system of support for the protection of human rights and the need to educate about human rights. According to Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) chair Jan Figeľ, also on the show, the Government has failed to reflect on the votes of almost one million citizens who supported the recent, failed referendum on the 'protection of family' which aimed at curbing the rights of same sex couples from adopting children or entering wedlock. Figeľ argued that the document is not in accordance with the Slovak Constitution and the concept of universal human rights. Lajčák however stressed that the drafting of the strategy was based on the Constitution, Slovak law and the international commitments made by the Slovak Republic. Figeľ stated that he is prepared to abolish the current human rights strategy or offer an alternative if his party receives enough support from voters in the upcoming general election.
