President Kiska signs opening of pension pillar

President Andrej Kiska has signed into law the amendment to the Old-Age Pension Saving Act that opens the second pension pillar for three months, from 15 March to 15 June of this year. As the head of state said in his address on Thursday, the dispute over pensions and the possibility to quit the second pillar between the government and the opposition has been going on for as long as ten years. "I have decided that I will not protract this debate by vetoing the amendment," said the President of the Slovak Republic. "There is no doubt that at present, there are savers in the old-age pension saving system for whom the second pillar is definitely not favourable under current conditions," said Kiska. He wishes that responsible institutions use the time until 15 June to inform truly and comprehensively about the second pension pillar.
