Guns used in Paris terror attacks probably originated from Slovakia

It's likely that the terrorist attacks in Paris in January that cost the lives of 17 people were committed with the use of guns from Slovakia, blank firing weapons modified into fully functional live ammunition SA-58 rifles. The TASR press agency acquired this information from an unnamed gun expert. "It's very realistic and likely that modified blank firing guns were used," stated the expert. According to this source, blank firing weapons are hard to trace after sale and can be purchased by anyone with an ID card aged above 18. The firearm can be resold without police supervision. Modifying the weapon isn't particularly challenging if a functional replacement barrel is available, said the expert. The Nový Čas daily brought the story earlier in the day, stating that the Slovak police have received a request from their French counterparts to trace the origin of seven firearms over a suspicion that terrorists who attacked Charlie Hebdo adapted and used weapons they ordered from Slovakia. Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák announced tightening of the rules regarding expansion weapons. Spokesperson of the Interior Ministry added that their ministry is working on a legislative amendment that will require the owners of modified blank firing guns to hold a firearms licence and register their guns.
