Russia requests extradition of suspected Chechen terrorist

Russia has requested the extradition of a 32-year-old man of Chechen origin who is suspected of terrorism in Russia and was apprehended at the Vyšné Nemecké (Košice region) border crossing between Slovakia and Ukraine on January 15, the website topky.sk reported on Tuesday. Moscow's interest in the man, shortened as Hamzat S., was confirmed for the website by Justice Ministry spokesperson Alexandra Donevová. She added that the ministry has received documents earlier on Tuesday including the extradition request. Based on the request, the Regional Court in Košice is to decide on changing the 'temporary custody' status into one of 'custody pending extradition'. Hamzat S. was remanded in custody on January 19. He features on Interpol's list of wanted individuals, and Russia has issued an international warrant for his arrest.
