At the end of 2014, there were 4,266 companies in Slovakia which had owners seated in tax havens. It is a year-on-year increase of 364 companies, demonstrates exclusive research conducted by the consulting company Bisnode for the Hospodárske Noviny business daily. The number of companies seated in tax havens rose steeply in spite of legislative novelties, such as the introduction of a withholding tax for offshore companies and stronger pressure on the release of information as well as the cancelation of bank secrecy on the part of the EU countries.
