The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry stated that it received with "indignation" the news on the "brutal and condemnable" killing of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by Libyan radicals claiming to be members of the local branch of the Islamic State. The militants released a video on Sunday containing a simultaneous beheading of 21 Christian hostages coming from Egypt on a beach in Libya. The video then showed blood-stained waves, with the IS speaker stating: "We will conquer Rome, with Allah's permission". According to the Slovak ministry, "this atrocious crime is another one from a series of evidence on the bestial, inhumane and unacceptable essence of the ideology of the so-called Islamic State that has no place in a civilised world". The ministry further expressed sympathy to the bereaved and the Egyptian Government. At the same time it gave assurances of Slovakia's "solidarity in the global fight against terrorism and extremism".
