President Andrej Kiska met representatives of the court workers' trade union ahead of their single-day strike that's to take place next week. Head of the trade unions Marta Bozkova and two presidium members informed the President about the reasons behind the strike, claiming the President endorsed their demands and promised to discuss the situation with Justice Minister Tomas Borec. "The president called the judiciary one of his priority areas, and he's convinced that the state needs to ensure appropriate working conditions not only for judges but for all employees in the judiciary," stated the president's spokesman. All district and the eight regional courts with 4,500 employees, which is in fact 98 percent of their employees are set to join the strike next week. The precise day has yet to be announced.
