Prime Minister pleased Slovakia seen as combatting corruption

Slovakia has done a lot in the fight against corruption and this perception is also shared by foreign countries, Prime Minister Robert Fico said at a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday. However, the fight lying ahead is bound to be an uphill battle, even a dead end without cooperation from the public, said Fico. "I'm very glad that Slovakia has seen an improvement in the perception of its fight against corruption. I'm equally glad that specific cases of public figures and celebrities investigated by police are starting to emerge, too, and I hope that these cases will be seen through to a successful end", said Fico. According to the Prime Minister, an extensive number of measures have been passed and the Government is engaged in cooperation with the American Trade Chamber on the Rule of Law programme. "I believe that a lot has been done, and that's how countries abroad perceive the current reality in terms of our combatting corruption, too". Fico underlined that the fight against corruption requires significant cooperation of those who claim there is corruption. Therefore, he called upon people to report their suspicions to police. "We need reports; we need testimonies. Without civic cooperation, the fight against corruption is going nowhere", he added.
