No country has helped Ukraine as much as Slovakia, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said during his speech in the Parliament on Tuesday. Lajčák cited reverse gas flow and humanitarian aid as two most prominent examples of Slovakia's solidarity with Ukraine, for which Bratislava received expressions of gratitude from Ukrainian top officials. The minister stressed that there are two things Ukraine needs most at the moment, namely "peace and reforms", and claimed that Slovakia embraces the German-French initiative in this respect. Lajčák condemned the rise in anti-Russian statements seen among the members of the Slovak opposition. "The 'race' in issuing anti-Russian statements won't help Ukraine a single bit. What will help are specific actions and we're doing those. Let's not race in strong words but specific deeds", the minister told the Opposition. The situation of Ukraine dominated the Tuesday parliamentary session on the orientation of Slovak foreign and European affairs policies. Lajčák claimed that Slovak foreign policy has been drafted with a wider emphasis on security, including energy security, support for economic diplomacy and stability in the world as well as the fight against terrorism.
