The status of unaccompanied refugee minors is expected to be improved, with such individuals longer being held in containment camps, instead being moved into foster homes during their asylum case proceedings. This change in the law on asylum in Slovakia is now being discussed by the Government. The Slovak Interior Ministry seeks to incorporate changes resulting from the directives of the European Parliament and of the European Council, with their goal being to build a common European asylum system. In recent times cases of unaccompanied refugee children arriving to Slovakia have become more commonplace, with 11 recorded in 2013 and four in 2012.
