Slovak Railways (ŽSR) has warned travellers that morning trains on the main rail link between Košice city in the east of Slovakia and Bratislava city in the west have had significant delays. "The reason for the delay is failure of a catenary wire, which occurred at 5:15 AM at the railway station Spiśské Vlachy (eastern Slovakia)", informed the Slovak Railways spokesperson Martina Pavlíková. Arcing onto the catenary cable, which suspends the live contact wire, interrupted the power supply to two sets of tracks. "An electrician was immediately called to the location to repair the damaged cable. Operations on the Krompachy to Markušovce line were restored after 8:13 AM. As a result, early train links were delayed this morning by between 70 to 150 minutes", concluded Pavlíková. Slovak Railways apologised for the inconvenience, but comments that such technical failures cannot be completely ruled out, despite regular checks and maintenance.
