Slovakia should separate church and state, says new party

The fledgling Slovak Civic Coalition party (SKOK) stated that it wants to reconcile the country after what it described as the "hateful campaign" that accompanied the referendum on the traditional family during the weekend. One of the moves that would contribute to reconciliation would be the separation of Church and State, said SKOK. "People in Slovakia have rejected hate and intolerance", said chairman of the party's preparatory committee Juraj Miškov in reference to the results of the referendum, which was declared invalid due to the low turnout. Miškov claims that Slovakia needs to adopt modern reforms that are common in other countries. SKOK has already announced a campaign for the separation of Church and State. According to MP Daniel Krajcer, who is also taking part in setting up the new party, all parliamentary parties except for Smer-SD and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) have entered into a working group that should deal with the issue.
