According to preliminary data from the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, last year Slovakia's foreign trade ended with a surplus of €4.67 billion. It has thus exceeded by over one-tenth the historical record surplus from 2013, which reached €4.23 billion. Overall imports rose only slightly by 0.3 percent year-on-year to €60.1 billion and total exports were higher by 0.9 percent at €64.78 billion. In December alone, the trade balance ended in a deficit of €19.6 million, which was the first annual decrease since the end of 2013. Imports in December totalled €4.831 billion on annual growth of 2.2 percent, while exports rose by 3.3 percent to €4.811 billion.
