Phishing emails claiming to be from Slovak bank

The Slovenská sporiteľňa bank has noticed fraudulent emails that are being used by hackers to gain the passwords to its clients' internet banking accounts, Stefan Frimmer from Slovenská sporiteľňa told TASR on Tuesday. The bank warns its clients to be cautious and not to click on suspect links in emails. The bank never requests information concerning accounts, telephone numbers, passwords and codes for electronic banking services and payment cards. Although the alleged name of the sender is Slovenská sporiteľňa, it's clear at first glance that the email has been sent from a fake address. The subject of the message is usually "Bringing the account up to date - Slovenská sporiteľňa Internet Banking", and the entire message is written in the Czech language. The bank recommends erasing the message without opening it. The body of the mail calls on the receiver to click on a link in order to bring their online bank account up to date. What happens next is the same as with many similar fraudulent emails. The client is redirected to a fake page, which requires them to log in with their personal passwords. The fake page also contains boxes that don't figure on regular internet banking web pages. "The bank checks every single attempt at fraud, and if it finds suspect activities, it takes steps aimed at preventing damage", said Jan Adamovska, who is responsible for IT Security at Slovenská sporiteľňa.
